Prayer

One thought that got deleted in my last group of blogs is my thought on prayer. I bring it back for myself only, as it is something I want to keep in the forefront of my mind this year. The words are not my words, but words from John Piper's book, Let the Nations Be Glad.

"Prayer is the open admission that without Christ we can do nothing. And prayer is the turning away from ourselves to God in the confidence that he will provide the help we need. Prayer humbles us as needy and exalts God as all-sufficient."

I have sometimes struggled with the thought of why it is necessary to pray and ask God for things when He is omniscient. The statement above makes me look at prayer differently. We don’t pray because God needs us to in order for Him to do His work, but we pray because it reflects a heart of humility, admitting that we can’t do it alone, and we need God to intervene. We recognize that all things come from Him and without Him, we can do nothing.
